This week, I want to encourage you to spend your dollars locally. Here are some reasons why shopping and eating locally is a great way to spend sustainably:
Local businesses often build strong neighborhoods by linking neighbors and contributing more to local causes.
Local ownership also allows for important decisions to be made by people who live in the community and who will feel the impacts of those decisions.
Shopping at your neighborhood store or eating at a local restaurant helps to protect and maintain the character and prosperity of your community!
Also, many local restaurants support the community by getting produce from farmer’s markets, bread from neighborhood bakeries, and so on!
Local stores help sustain vibrant, walkable neighborhoods that reduce sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss, as well as air and water pollution.
So next time you’re going shopping or going out to eat, consider how you can support a nearby small business!
