| | | Flowers will spruce up city
The organization is teaming up with the Cincinnati Park Board to plant 50,000 flower bulbs on Oct. 25 as part of the Daffodils and Day Lilies program. The flowers will be planted along Interstates 275, 75, 74 and 71, with sites including the Kellogg Avenue, Peacock Road, Montana Avenue, Ezzard Charles Drive, Dana Avenue and Mitchell Avenue exit ramps. The program has planted 145,500 daffodils and 20,000 day lilies since beginning five years ago. Keep Cincinnati Beautiful promotes litter prevention, community improvement and beautification through citizen action. The organization is partnering with the Greater Cincinnati Water Works, which will insert solicitation requests for the flower planting into third quarter water bills. "When we beautify our city, it shows that someone cares and areas that have been beautified are less likely to be littered. The highways are the gateways to our city and to beautify them is our way to say 'welcome' to our visitors as well as greet residents and those working in the city," said Linda Holterhoff, executive director of Keep Cincinnati Beautiful. Volunteers are needed for the project. For more information, call Keep Cincinnati Beautiful at (513) 352-4380. Publication Date: 07-17-2003 Keep Cincinnati Beautiful |
