A potential health hazard and a definite eyesore, has been cleared up from a site near Lunken Airport.

That's where nearly 5,000 tires used as barricades at nearby stock car races were dumped.

The Hamilton County Solid Waste District teams up every year with Keep Cincinnati Beautiful and Rumpke for a tire sweep.

They target the Tri-state's biggest piles of tires, which are breeding grounds for mosquitos.

"They're a public health hazard with West Nile around, they're obviously a nuisance and we want to abate that as quickly as possible," said Jeff Alutto, Hamilton County Solid Waste District.

If you know of a large pile of abandoned tires in Hamilton County, the solid waste district would like you to call 946-7777 to report it.
