A Cincinnatian has won the highest professional honor given by Keep America Beautiful.

Linda Holterhoff, executive director of Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, was honored last month in Washington for instituting ideas for cleanup campaigns such as: "Don't Trash the 'Nati,'' and "This is Litter Too.''

Don't Trash the 'Nati is an advertising campaign that urges people not to dump trash carelessly around the city.

The This is Litter Too campaign was designed to let people know that cigarette butts should be considered litter.

Holterhoff designed and oversaw the curbside recycling program in Cincinnati. She also began a paint-recycling program that has spun off into a separate nonprofit organization, Nu-Blend Paint.

Keep Cincinnati Beautiful was also awarded $5,000 for the Keep America Beautiful/Anheuser-Busch Environmental Grant, and first place in the Fuji film awards program.

Holterhoff said Keep Cincinnati Beautiful is a not-for-profit organization promoting litter prevention, recycling and community improvement and beautification through citizen action, education and strategic partnership in Greater Cincinnati.
