With Your Help, Keep Cincinnati Beautiful Will Plant More Daffodils and Daylilies Along Cincinnati Highways
CINCINNATI - Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, along with the Cincinnati Park Board, will plant 50,000 flower bulbs along Cincinnatis highways again this year as part of the Daffodils and
DayLilies program.
Keep Cincinnati Beautiful needs the help of all Greater Cincinnatians to continue this program which beautifies our citys highways. In a partnership with the Greater Cincinnati Water Works, Keep Cincinnati Beautiful is asking all residential city water customers to donate at least one dollar to the Daffodils and DayLilies program. A remittance envelope with bright orange flowers describing the Daffodils and DayLilies program is being inserted into third-quarter water bills. The envelope asks residents to help beautify their hometown by sending at least one dollar to Daffodils and Daylilies. This is the programs fourth year. So far, we have planted 135,000 daffodils and 15,000 dayliles for a truly grand total of 150,000. This year, Keep Cincinnati Beautiful volunteers, lead by staff from the Cincinnati Park Board, will plant in several areas along Cincinnati highways. Volunteer groups will include the Greater Cincinnati Master Gardener Association, Procter & Gamble ADOPT, and maybe some of your neighbors. Planting will be October 26, 2002 Make a Difference Day. To help with the planting, check the box on the remittances envelope or call Keep Cincinnati Beautiful at 352-4380. "When we beautify our city, it shows that someone cares and areas that have been beautified are less likely to be littered. The highways are the gateways to our city and beautifying them is our way to say welcome to our visitors as well as greet residents and those working in the city," said Linda Holterhoff, Executive Director of Keep Cincinnati Beautiful. "By offering at just one dollar, you can help us with our efforts to reduce litter and beautify our hometown." Keep Cincinnati Beautiful can do so much more with the help of every citizen. Keep Cincinnati Beautiful is a not-for-profit organization promoting litter prevention, recycling, and community improvement and beautification through citizen action, education and strategic partnerships in the Greater Cincinnati area. |
